So long garden…

Today is our last full day at home, so I’m focusing on the garden. It’s not easy to leave these beauties behind. I was able to pick about a gallon of cherries. Friends are coming to pick next week.

The sunflowers are taller than me! Should be a variety of colours for us and the birds to enjoy this fall/winter.

Legislature Buildings of Canada

One of the ways we plan to mark our way across Canada is to visit as many legislature buildings as we can and to buy/collect a pen from each one as “proof of our visit”.

Our second eldest granddaughter, Bronwyn, will be joining us from Moose Jaw to Winnipeg. So, we invited her to join us yesterday on our official visit to the AB legislature building in Edmonton and to pick up a pen. The journey has begun, before we leave home! (We picked up the BC legislature pen when we visited Victoria a few years ago.)

Final Preparations…

The to-do list:

You know what it’s like. Anytime you go away, there’s the inevitable list of things to do:

  • clean/empty the fridge
  • pay the bills
  • take out the garbage
  • arrange for someone to mow, shovel, water the plants, check the house, etc.

Well, that’s the phase we’re in now. We’ve done this many times before, but never in preparation to be away for such a long time. The next couple of months includes a change of seasons, fruit that will ripen and a garden (flowers and veggies) that will need at least some attention. But in the end, we’ll do our best to not forget the important stuff, and not panic if something unimportant has been overlooked.

This is a trip we’ve talked about for a very long time. Our plan is to drive from our home, as far east as Halifax – and back home again. Stops along the way to visit family and friends will add to the richness and memories of our trip. So, if we’re leaving you behind – we welcome you to travel along with us on our blog. Some of you – we can’t wait to visit with you as we come to/through your home town.

Last but not least – some of you have already done this trip, or part(s) of it. What did you see/do? We’d love to hear your recommendations. Use the “leave a comment” option at the bottom of our daily posts to share your thoughts and ideas.
